My friend Javier – he’s a sexy mutha fucka – and 99.5 % of the time a great friend – but he’s a busy guy and everyone wants a piece of him. That’s ok Jav baby, I don’t need constant attention. Quite frankly, sometimes we see each other too much huh Daddy? Anyway, I’m not holding it against him that we didn’t make it to the Playboy Mansion a couple of weeks ago – I know it was just a ploy to get me to work instead of party with bunnies. That’s ok I didn’t expect it to be a life altering event, and anyway I’ve been invited back to Hef’s in May. We did rock the Katsu-Ya for dinner, so it wasn’t a complete waste of a cute dress.
But, Jav can come through like nobody’s business sometimes. Case in point – Coachella 2007 – holy crap did he come through!! VIP All Access passes (not to mention the VIP parking and that little handful of shrooms didn’t disappoint) to see the Rage Against the Machine Reunion. Sure, Bjork, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Roots, Willy Nelson, Kaiser Chiefs and about 90 other bands played – but I drove 2 hours to the desert specifically to catch Rage! And in doing so, managed to work my way backstage where I witnessed Courtney Love (looking a little frightening weighing in at about 75 lbs) yelling at somebody (of course she was), Perry Farrell checking out my friend Lara, Paris Hilton (donning black patent leather pumps – why honey, why?), Mischa Barton looking tragically hip, and Michelle Rodriguez who looked annoyed that she was among people at all and a slew of other rock luminaries – many of whom I recognized, but just couldn’t quite put my finger on who they were. Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t get backstage for Rage (even though we had special access to) cuz the security was so tight you’d think the President was around…then again, Rage probably would have welcomed a debate.
And although it was all very entertaining, nothing compared to the event that was the Rage Against the Machine Reunion. They took the stage and didn’t disappoint playing all familiar Rage favorites:
Bulls on Parade
People of the Sun
Bullet in the Head
Renegades of Funk
Calm Like a Bomb
Sleep Now in the Fire
and closed with an Encore of Killing in the Name of
Jav – you shoulda stuck around love…you missed one helluva show!
